The majority of people in Santo Domingo has been poor during its entire history. Conditions have improved for many in the 1990's. The photos do not show you how much the people love life, their music, their food, and their country. The Dominicans have a wonderful culture you cannot appreciate without being there. The culture is in the music.
Durante la larga historia de Santo Domingo, la mayoría de su gente ha sido pobre. Las condiciones han mejorado para mucha gente en los años 90. Las fotos no muestran cuanto la gente dominicana ama la vida, su música, su comida, y su patria. La cultura dominicana es maravillosa, pero no la pueden ver sin estar ahí. Much of Santo Domingo's food comes directly to the market from the country side.

Dominican "colmados" are everywhere. They look completely different to the American convenience stores.
